Lad’s practice focuses primarily on health law, where he provides advice and representation on a variety of legal matters, including regulatory issues (i.e. College complaints and investigations), independent health facility regulation, hospital privileges disputes, consent and capacity issues, privacy concerns and other Ontario health legislation.
Lad has written on a variety of health law topics, including the legal governance of hospitals, the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004, the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, and the physician audit system. Lad also regularly speaks to clients, professional associations and other groups regarding various health law issues.
In 2006, Lad was retained by the Critical Care Secretariat of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to prepare a report outlining the status of the law regarding the delivery of critical care services in Ontario hospitals. Lad also presented a webcast on this topic that was broadcast to administrators and health professionals at hospitals across Ontario.
Lad also helped establish the Medico-Legal Society of Toronto’s “Medical Professional Legal Issues” program at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine, and serves as both a faculty member and editor of the program’s legal content.
In addition to his health law practice, Lad also handles a wide variety of litigation matters, including commercial/civil litigation and employment matters.
