2011-2012 Articling Students

Tim Duncan – University of Western Ontario

Tim is currently completing his articles with Gardiner Roberts after graduating with a J.D. from the University of Western Ontario in 2011.  Tim first came to the firm in 2010 as a summer student.  Prior to law school, he received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in History from Queen’s University and UWO.  While at law school, Tim engaged in a number of mooting competitions with marked success: a finalist in the Lerners First-Year Advocacy Competition at Western; a finalist and Best Appellant Factum winner in the Lerners Cup upper-year moot; and the recipient of the CJC Dickson Medal (Top Speaker) at the 2010 FMC Gale Cup in Toronto.  Tim was also a student editor for the Canadian Journal of Law and Jurisprudence and Captain of the 2011 UWO Law Games Team.  He enjoys playing the guitar, golf, snowboarding and playing intramural basketball and volleyball.

Luke Field – Osgoode Hall Law School

Luke Field joined Gardiner Roberts as a summer student in 2010, and is currently completing his articles after his final year of the J.D. program at Osgoode Hall Law School. Luke holds an Honours B.A. in History and Political Studies at Queen’s University and spent a semester abroad at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany, studying international business and public law. While at Osgoode, Luke was actively involved with the mooting society, and represented the school in the Cassels Brock Cup Moot. He was also editor in chief of Obiter Dicta, the Osgoode student newspaper. Luke has traveled extensively throughout Europe and Scandinavia and speaks German.

Glenford Jameson – Dalhousie Law School

Glenford summered with Gardiner Roberts in 2010 and has returned to article with the firm in 2011.  He attended Dalhousie Law School where he has earned a degree with a specialization in business law.   Within business law, Glenford has focused on tax and securities regulation, and has written directed research paper assessing the transition of the federal government towards a national securities regulator.  Glenford graduated from Mount Allison University with an Hon. B.A. in History, Minor in Political Science.  At Mount Allison, Glenford wrote his history thesis on French socio-cultural policies arising out of post-World War Two colonial labour migrations.  Personally, he has a passion for food and wine, and has given lectures and hosted tastings on culinary and oenological theory.  Prior to joining Gardiner Roberts, Glenford worked extensively in federal politics, and as a student with an elite estates and litigation firm in Toronto.

Brenda Rego – University of Detroit Mercy, School of Law

Brenda has joined Gardiner Roberts as an articling student in 2011.  Brenda has obtained a J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy, School of Law after obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree from York University and a Security Law Certificate from the University of Toronto.   In addition to studying at the University of Detroit Mercy, School of Law, Brenda has also taken various classes at the University of Windsor, Faculty of Law.  As a law student, Brenda served as class president, held the position of Title Editor on law review, participated in the Ernie Goodman Moot Court Competition and held various events as a member of the Student Body Association. In 2010, Brenda worked at a prominent investment firm in the legal and compliance department as a summer student where she worked directly with corporate counsel.  Brenda is currently a member of the Portuguese Lawyers Association of Canada and the Portugal Canada Chamber of Commerce and Industry.  Brenda is an active philanthropist who has participated in various charitable events and initiatives both locally and internationally.  She enjoys traveling, soccer and cooking.

Hero S. Tselepakis – University of Toronto

Hero summered with Gardiner Roberts in 2010, and has returned to article with the firm in 2011.  Hero has completed the J.D. program at the University of Toronto.  Prior to law school, she obtained an Honours B.A.  from McMaster University where she graduated with distinction.  While in law school, Hero worked as an Editor for the University of Toronto Law Review, and was actively involved with student clinical work.  Hero was recognized as the top student in Constitutional law and achieved distinctions in competitive mooting.  She was selected to represent her law school in the Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and served as a student coach to prepare first year law students with their competitive mooting.  Prior to joining Gardiner Roberts, Hero worked in a large financial institution where she gained experience in banking and business law.

2012-2013 Articling Students

Alexander Melfi – Osgoode Hall Law School

Alex will be returning to Gardiner Roberts as an articling student in 2012. He is in the third year of the JD program at Osgoode Hall Law School, after receiving an Honours B.A. in Forensic Science and Criminology from the University of Windsor. While in law school, Alex has been actively involved with the Innocence Project, a student clinical program at Osgoode. Alex has also worked with numerous community based organizations, including the CNIB and National Service Dogs, training a puppy that has become a certified service dog. Prior to joining the firm, Alex interned at a corporate finance law firm in Toronto. His interests include snowboarding, golf, tennis and cooking.

Michelle Mondorf – University of Windsor

Michelle will be returning to Gardiner Roberts as an articling student in 2012. She is currently in her third year of the J.D. Program at the University of Windsor. Prior to law school, Michelle obtained a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Political Science, with a minor in German, at Acadia University in Nova Scotia. While in school, Michelle has been a member and chair of various Student Law Society Committees, including the merchandise sales and formal committee. She is also volunteering for Pro Bono Students Canada, assisting a local non-profit financial assistance centre in Windsor. Prior to attending law school, Michelle worked as a legal administrative assistant for a firm in Toronto. Michelle’s interests include music, baseball, volleyball, general fitness, and cars.

Amit Patel – University of Toronto

Amit will return to Gardiner Roberts as an articling student in 2012. Amit obtained a B.A. in Economics with a minor in Management from McGill University and is presently in his third year of the J.D. program at the University of Toronto. While in law school, Amit has volunteered as a co-chair to organize Orientation Week 2010 for the Faculty of Law, welcoming new students to the school, and as tutor for the Law in Action Within Schools program. He is also volunteering through Pro Bono Students Canada as a contributing editor for the Technology and IP Blog for the Centre of Innovation Law and Policy, and as a student-volunteer for the Not-For-Profit Corporate Law Project. Prior to joining Gardiner Roberts, Amit worked as a consultant with a firm that focused on corporate strategy for technology and communications businesses.

Andrea Tannenbaum – University of Toronto

Andrea will be returning to Gardiner Roberts as an articling student in 2012. She is currently in her third year of the J.D. Program at the University of Toronto. Prior to law school, Andrea obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Humanistic Studies from McGill University in Montreal. At U of T, Andrea is a member of the Health Law Club, a contributor to the school newspaper Ultra Vires, and is a tutor with the LAWS program. Outside of school, Andrea likes to play guitar, attend concerts, discover new restaurants and remain active. Andrea has travelled throughout Canada, the United States, Europe and Southeast Asia, and hopes to continue her travels on exchange next semester.

Aly Virani – University of Ottawa

Aly will be returning to Gardiner Roberts as an articling student in 2012.  He is currently in his fourth year of a four-year joint degree program with the University of Ottawa and Michigan State University in which he will graduate with both an LL.B. and American J.D. in 2012.  Prior to law school, Aly obtained an Honours Bachelor of Social Science with a double major in Political Science and Criminology.  As an undergraduate student, Aly spent a semester abroad at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Netherlands.  As a law student, Aly was the Chief Electoral Officer of the 2010 Common Law Student Society Elections, a teaching assistant in the Dispute Resolution and Professional Responsibility Program and a participant at the regional finals of the ABA Client Counseling Competition.  Aly also participated in the 2009 Richard Weiler Mediation Competition and Hicks Morely Labour Law Moot Competition.  In 2009, Aly worked as a summer student at the Community Legal Clinic of York Region.  Since 2007, Aly has been an active member of the national literacy movement and currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Excellence in Literacy Foundation.  He enjoys traveling, running and golfing.
