Although we believe in the importance of a varied articling program, students who become involved in a particular hearing or transaction may retain carriage of the matter through their articles. In addition, Gardiner Roberts attempts to accommodate students who develop an interest in a particular area of law.

Students will be exposed to the following areas of law while in their respective rotations:

We believe that continuing professional development is very important for students as well as lawyers. Students attend in-house seminars in specific areas of law to receive practical training and to keep aprized of new developments in the law.

Formal evaluations of our articling students are completed two times a year. The Articling Committee requires all lawyers who have worked with the articling students to complete a student evaluation form. The results of each student's evaluation is then discussed on a one-on-one basis between the student and a member of the committee and students are given feedback regarding progress as well as suggestions for areas for development.
Articling students will be assigned a mentor that they will meet with informally on a bi-weekly basis to discuss a variety of topics relating to their articling experience, future goals and career paths.
The mid-size law firm environment at Gardiner Roberts fosters a collegial working atmosphere. Each of our lawyers is approachable and is understanding of the articling student's perspective. Students are invited to attend all firm functions such as our Christmas party, summer event, monthly Thursday cocktail reception, annual client golf tournament, in addition to a number of smaller, informal events that occur throughout the year. At Gardiner Roberts, we encourage students to interact with lawyers in smaller settings and may include luncheons, dinners, plays and sporting events.
Our articling students receive a compensation package that is competitive with that of other mid-sized Bay Street law firms. In addition, students receive two weeks paid vacation within the ten month articling period, as well as an allowance towards educational seminars. The firm also pays salary and tuition for all students during the bar admission course.
